Seven members of Point Grey represented two teams at the second running of the Whistler 50 Relay on October 20 2012.   Whistler 50 is primarily a road race relay with alternating legs of 13km and 7km respectively.  Although the race was two weeks earlier this year, conditions still proved difficult with near freezing temperatures and snowfall.  Whistler 50 is one of the few “relaxed” and “fun” races of the year.

Sabrina Wilkie was the lone female from Point Grey, and ran for he open women’s team, Team BAC.  Sabrina was second in her opening stage of 8.24 miles in a time of 52 minutes, 7 seconds.  Team BAC won the overall women’s race in 5 hours, 27 minutes, 24 seconds.

Six men from Point Grey ran in the opens mens race representing Point Grey Port-A-Loo.  The men, for the second year in a row, dominated the race right from the gun.  Overall, Point Grey Port-A-Loo won all 8 stages and achieved nearly a 20 minute victory over the 2nd place Beaver Buzz Racing Team.  Below is a break down of each stage.

1.  Sam Pawluk, 43:59, 1st, 13.26km

2. Theo Hunt, 24:55, 1st, 7.13km

3. Dylan Gant, 44:06, 1st, 12.87km

4. Mark Wilkie, 24:35, 1st, 7.13km

5. Ryan Huff, 44:07, 1st, 12.87km

6.  Keir Forester, 23:34, 1st, 7.13km

7.  Kevin Friesen, 42:51, 1st, 12.87km

8.  Ryan Brockerville, 23:48, 1st, 7.13km

Point Grey Port-A-Loo’s overall time of 4 hours 31 minutes, and 51 seconds was two seconds shy of the course record set by Team Honey Bucket (2011).  Thanks to Keir Forester and Ryan Brockerville for running with Point Grey this year.  Full results can be found at http://www.raceheadquarters.com/results/2012/run/W50M2012OA_R.html
