Sabrina Wilkie and Sam Pawluk both raced at the Canadian 10k Road Race Championships/Oasis Zoo Run in Toronto, Ontario this past weekend.  On a difficult and challenging course, both runners came home with strong performances. 

On the woman’s side, Sabrina finished 13th overall in a time of 36:52, only a handful of seconds short of a top 10 finish.  She was the 2nd BC team member, behind Natasha Fraser.  Overall, the BC women’s team finished 2nd, loosing out to Ontario.

Sam Pawluk finished 7th overall, and was the 6th Canadian in a time of 31:07.  Pawluk went out hard with the lead pack of men, going through 5k in 15:07 and lost some group over the final 5k, but managed to maintain his position from 5k onwards. Pawluk also lead the BC men’s team to a 1st place finish.

Overall, the course proved to be very challenging including 180 degree hairpin turns, long hills, several short rolling hills, and too many turns and corners to count.  Fortunately, the weather cleared up before the race providing ideal conditions and temperatures for the athletes.
