An armada of Point Grey Athletes traveled to Victoria last weekend to take Part in the Victoria Marathon weekend. Although the main event was the marathon, no Point Grey athletes took part. Instead, several ran in the 8km road race and half marathon.
The 8k road race kicked off the races with a bright and early 7:15am start. Calm weather and perfect conditions lead to ideal racing conditions. Sam Pawluk led the way for Point Grey, finishing 2nd overall in a time of 24:41. Coming in third was Ryan Huff in 25:30. To wrap things up, Mark Wilkie was 4th overall in 26:03. It was Huff’s first race in several months and a step in the right direction. Asked how he felt, Huff replied it was "pretty good, just a little bit more of a time trial then a race it seemed. Fitness is definitely coming back." This was also Wilkie’s first race since the spring as he was injured for some time. In the women’s race, Sabrina Wilkie finished 3rd overall in 28:18; a 20 second personal best.
Kevin Friesen was the lone representative in the half marathon. Battling illness, Friesen finished 24th in a time of 1:16:25.
While personal achievement was one of the themes of the day, there was a team category that Point Grey won. Congratulations to Sabrina and Mark Wilkie for winning the Married Team Division!!!
